Happy New Year!
$20,000 was the starting capital at the beginning of 2018 for the “Enhanced Investing” portfolio. At the end of the year a net gain after commissions of +$3867.81 had been realized, for a +19.3% performance. No equity exposure existed at the end of the year. In other words, no stock positions.
Breaking down the activity into the three main groups (Short Puts, Covered Calls and Dividends):
Short Puts were definitely the most profitable component. Then we
have the Covered Call positions, this includes both stock gains/losses
and short Calls gain/losses. Six stock positions existed throughout the
year and several Calls were sold on them. Finally, 18 dividend payments
were received for a total of $573. For trade by trade details you can
check the “2018” tab of the Excel spreadsheet on the Results page.
An interesting point: only $204.19 spent in commissions. Taking the gross gains of $4,072 down to the aforementioned $3,867.81. Commissions therefore represented only 5% of the gross profits.
Definitely a good year, taking into account that the American markets were negative in 2018. We’ll see what 2019 brings.
