Happy Birthday Sniper!

Happy Birthday Sniper!
My little kid is one year old today.

One year ago today I started trading the LT Trend Sniper robot with real money. The original article that I just linked to, goes back to December 14, 2012. I had just finished designing and programming the strategy in MQL language. From there, I spent 2013 and 2014 with the Sniper in forward testing mode through a Paper money account. After two years of live forward testing, I was totally confident and it was time to start using it with real money.

Data from 2000 to 2009 was used for the design of the strategy, leaving the 2010 - 2012 period for Out of Sample testing. When tested in this "unknown" period, the Sniper performed as expected. So, right off the bat the Sniper started with 3 years of "unknown" data doing quite well. Then 2 more years of actual live forward testing followed (2013-2014). Admittedly, 2013 was not great, but the results were still within the expected parameters. 2014 was spectacular. So, now I had 5 years (3 Out of sample + 2 Live forward testing) to be fully confident about the work done. I don't think there is a single Retail Forex trading robot out there with a profitable 10 year back test, for which anybody has accumulated 5 years of results trading under "unknown" conditions, before starting to use it with real money.

A real money account was open in early December 2014 and the Sniper opened its first real-money trade on December 16th, 2014 (GMT+2 time, so December 15th for us in the western hemisphere): it was a short EURUSD position, back when the Euro was still trading above 1.22. A massive downtrend followed. Forty-three days later the Sniper would close this position for a huge profit.

741 pips and an 11% gain for the portfolio. I still feel in heaven re-living those glorious days.

There was another profitable trend caught after this one from Feb 26 to March 18. The rest of 2015 was not as glorious, but still, the Sniper managed to not disappoint. It wasn't its best year on record, but with a +7.30% return for the year, it easily outperformed the returns of Audited Professional Forex traders reported by the Barclays Currency Traders Index

The Sniper is a docile animal. A patient, conservative, slow trend follower. It doesn't have the insane personality of most retail trading robots out there that are based on Scalping, or Martingale, Grid Trading or other irresponsible methods. It won't let you go bankrupt. That's what makes it suitable for larger accounts, although it can also work on small ones.

The Sniper has recently been tested on spot Gold (XAU/USD) and it has delivered smooth and nice equity curves with different parameter sets. Combining the EUR/USD with XAU/USD, a 15-year back test delivers an Average Annual Return of +15% with a maximum draw-down of only 15%. I will talk about this in future articles and will start trading XAU/USD along with the Euro in 2016.

Forex is always speculation, but with the Sniper it feels more like "Investing", if that is even possible to comprehend: "Hey, I passively invest my money through a long term trend follower Forex robot". My dream come true.

Happy Birthday my friend!
Thank you for an exciting and profitable first year.
Hopefully, you will bring us 15 or 20 more like this one.
